If the last week is anything to go by, winter is certainly here! We all know that winter can be a very challenging time. That is incredibly true for exercise. It can be hard to keep the momentum going when the weather is not as good as it is in the summer months.

The reality is that winter can also wreak havoc on the body, much more so than in other months of the year. As a result, people often find themselves getting sicker over the winter months.

Why is that?

  • The weather is cold
  • The immune system is vulnerable
  • There is less sunlight
  • We are indoors much more often
  • We drink less water
  • Our food intake changes


It is possible to reduce the risk of illness however. Some of these messages have been preached to us quite a lot over the last few years:

  • Hand washing
  • Staying away from sick people
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Staying hydrated

On top of the above, we can also improve our immune systems with the increase of vitamins and minerals.

Combine that with regular movement and your body will be functioning at a high rate. If you do get sick, you will be one step ahead of the bugs and face a good chance at recovering faster.
