Building positive habits around health and wellness is vital to ongoing health. Our health and wellness is incredibly important to the quality of life that we lead. It is something that we are (largely) in control of, and always improve. If you make it a goal to improve your health and wellness, it can often feel overwhelming and a challenging process. This shouldn’t be surprising, but it is easy to fix.

Like any goal in life, improving health and wellness can be overcome by breaking down your goals into smaller, more achievable chunks. The creation of daily habits is a great way to do this.

Health and wellness can usually be broken down into 5 key areas:

  • Physical fitness and nutrition.
  • Spiritual/Ethics.
  • Emotional.
  • Social.
  • Intellectual.

It is not uncommon for people to have the balance across these areas a little off kilter.

E.g. Too much focus on physical fitness can mean less attention gets paid to the emotional health aspect.

If you are looking to improve your health and wellness, you should aim to improve in all areas evenly.

It should be done through the creation of daily habits in each area. If you are able to focus on all these areas on a daily basis, you will notice a drastic improvement in not only your health, but also your outlook on life.

Read below for 7 daily habits to improve your health and wellness.

Daily Wellness Habit #1 – 30 Minutes of personal growth daily

So often, we dedicate much of our lives to other people. We wake up, make sure the family is fed and gets to school. We then spend the day at work ensuring that we can do the best for our co-workers/employers. After that we head home and help the family again.

This is all fantastic, but if we do not dedicate some time to improve ourselves, how can we be the best for those around us?

Dedicating 30 minutes a day to your own personal growth is a great way to ensure that you are always improving as a human.

Things such as:

Can all go a long way to improving you and ensuring that you have a time to yourself to recharge.

Personal development is one of those daily wellness habits that can take a bit of time to get used to, but more than worth it in the long run.

Daily Wellness Habit #2 – Get Some Sunshine!

This is a habit that be easily done in conjunction with the first habit.

It is very hard to overstate the importance that the sun plays in our lives. Not only does Vitamin D help your body with the regulation of calcium and phosphate, but it will also help regulate your sleep cycle.

Combine this with the fact that it will also boost your immune system, this is a habit that will drastically improve your health and wellness.

It will also reduce depression and increase your ability to re-energise.

The next time you have 30 minutes spare in your day, get outside in the sun, put on a podcast and enjoy half an hour of bliss to yourself.

Daily Wellness Habit #3 – Exercise Every Day

This is another habit that can be combined with the above 2 wellness habits.

We could write hundreds of blog posts revolving around the importance of exercise in daily life, that is how great it is.

If you are regularly exercising you are:

  • Lowering risk of heart attack.
  • Improving memory and brain function.
  • Giving yourself an improved sleep.
  • Improving your mental health.
  • and MUCH MUCH MORE.

Now please note, this does not have to be exhaustive exercise. It just means that you need to be active.

Things such as:

  • 30 minutes outdoor walking
  • Stretch/Yoga class
  • Group Exercise Class
  • Going for a swim

Are all great ways to make sure you stay active on a daily basis without feeling like you always need to be in the gym.

Daily Wellness Habit #4 – Eat Lean & Clean

The fuel that we put in our system every day will go a long way to deciding how our health and wellness will be.

If you put shit, processed and highly fatty foods in your body, your body will have tremendous difficultly getting the required vitamins, minerals and nutrients on a daily basis.

If you are cooking lean, highly nutritious and healthy meals, your body will thank you by working efficiently and effectively every day.

It is no surprise that the healthiest people in this word are the ones that treat their body the best. A great indication of this is through the food that they eat.

There is evidence to suggest that being overweight or obese increases the risk of 10 different cancers alone.

This fact should be enough to make sure that you are fuelling your body properly.

Three top tips to eat healthy on a daily basis include:

  • Eating vegetables with every meal.
  • Making sure you eat lean protein options.
  • Staying hydrated by drinking 2/3 litres of water daily.

Improving your food is one of the easier wellness habits to get used to. Why? Because we have to eat every day and our body will always remind us that we are getting hungry!

Simply make sure you are eating healthier options and half the problem is solved already.

Daily Wellness Habit #5 – Sleep

Sleep is the one true time that we are allowing our body to repair. If we are not getting enough of it then we are not giving our body the best chance to be its healthy best.

It is that simple.

You should be looking to get between 7-9 hours of sleep a night every night.

There are a number of ways that you can ensure that this happens, a lot of it can be found in this blog post.

If you are not getting enough sleep on a daily basis then you are risking quite a lot with your health and wellness.

Such things including:

  • High blood pressure.
  • Diabetes.
  • Heart Attack.
  • Depression.
  • Lower Immune System.

If the above isn’t a great reason to sleep a bit more then I don’t know what is.

The next time you think about loading up another tv episode or playing another game, think to yourself:

“Is this giving me the best chance possible of improving my health & wellness?”

Daily Wellness Habit #6 – Be Grateful

Our days can get overwhelming. Work, sleep, stress, food, exercise. There is a lot to fit in to every day and sometimes it can be a bit too much.

Add to this the fact that the news is always negative, social media is designed to make us feel terrible and the state of the world isn’t great; it is not surprising that people are struggling to feel good about themselves.

A great way to counteract this is by spending 4-5 minutes practicing some gratitudes each morning. Do this every morning for a month and you will have developed another of the great wellness habits for success.

This will allow your headspace to improve as it will reinforce things that you are happy about, excited to do and looking forward to.

It will put things in to perspective and help you realise that there is much more to life that today’s stress.

Asking (and answering questions) like:

  • What are the 3 things in my life I am most appreciative of and why?
  • What am I most looking forward to in the short-term?
  • What am I going to be most proud of Dec 31, 2021?
  • What is most likely to stress me today? How would my best self deal with this?

Will go a long way to ensuring that you are taking care of your mental health and wellness on a daily basis.

Daily Wellness Habit #7 – Fake It Until You Make It

Our ability to lift those around us is something that should not be underestimated when it comes to your own health and wellness.

If you are surrounded by a group of miserable, sad and stressed people, what chance do you have of being any different?

We have such a massive impact on those around us and we should always be aiming to lift and improve them whenever we can.

Sometimes this means faking it until we make it.

It is unrealistic to expect that we can be at the top of our game all of the time. What we can do, is make sure that we are trying our best to.

This is especially true when we are at work. As we spend so much time at work, we should hope that it is a largely positive environment. NOt everyone sees it this way, and unfortunately too many people are miserable with what they do.

If you walk in to work every day with a big smile, focusing on the positive side of things and making sure that you can lift those around you, not only will you improve the workplace energy, but you will also improve the chances of your own energy being high.

If this means faking it every now and then, that can’t be the worst thing in the world.

Final thoughts…

Our ability to live a healthy and positive life is largely in our control. Of course there are always things that we are unable to fix/help/impact, but if we are doing our best to control what we can control, then we will go a long way to improving.

The above 7 steps are all wellness habits that can be done daily without too much time or effort being put in. The key to living a life of high quality and wellness will come down to whether or not you can work on the above with a high level of consistency.

Give it a go for a month, I promise that you will feel better at the end of it.
